The Law-04

How many times has God warned us of dangers of the world in which we live? He cares for all in HIS creation but especially for all who are truly born again. HE has been warning humans throughout history and mostly it has fallen on ‘deaf’ ears. What other clean laws could there be? It may surprise you that there are ‘clean’ laws that cover a number of areas and nearly 4 chapters. We will start with those that pertain to giving birth.

Leviticus 12:1  Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,  12:2  "Speak to the sons of Israel, saying: 'When a woman gives birth and bears a male child, then she shall be unclean for seven days, as in the days of her menstruation she shall be unclean. 

With all of the discharges of blood during birth, even today hospitals have to be very careful that disease is not spread to anyone else from the contact with her blood. God told us this before there was any such thing as a hospital.

Leviticus 15:19  'When a woman has a discharge, if her discharge in her body is blood, she shall continue in her menstrual impurity for seven days; and whoever touches her shall be unclean until evening. 15:20  'Everything also on which she lies during her menstrual impurity shall be unclean, and everything on which she sits shall be unclean. 15:21  'Anyone who touches her bed shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening. 15:22  'Whoever touches any thing on which she sits shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and be unclean until evening. 15:23  'Whether it be on the bed or on the thing on which she is sitting, when he touches it, he shall be unclean until evening. 

God issued these warning to protect all of us. This is just as true today as it was thousands of year ago. Does anyone think these laws or warnings should be ignored?

12:3  'On the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised. 12:4  'Then she shall remain in the blood of her purification for thirty-three days; she shall not touch any consecrated thing, nor enter the sanctuary until the days of her purification are completed. 12:5  'But if she bears a female child, then she shall be unclean for two weeks, as in her menstruation; and she shall remain in the blood of her purification for sixty-six days. 

Those who have children know that sometimes bleeding can continue for a few days. Why there are two time periods, one for a male and another for a female is not clear. The only difference is that males will be circumcised.

12:6  'When the days of her purification are completed, for a son or for a daughter, she shall bring to the priest at the doorway of the tent of meeting a one year old lamb for a burnt offering and a young pigeon or a turtledove for a sin offering. 12:7  'Then he shall offer it before the LORD and make atonement for her, and she shall be cleansed from the flow of her blood. This is the law for her who bears a child, whether a male or a female. 12:8  'But if she cannot afford a lamb, then she shall take two turtledoves or two young pigeons, the one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering; and the priest shall make atonement for her, and she will be clean.'"

This is the same sacrifice that Mary performed after the birth of the Messiah. Only God knows all the reasons for every sacrifice, but this we can know, He does require it. Atonement is not just a once in a lifetime requirement, the same as seeking forgiveness. It is a constant reminder of our need to obey God and seek forgiveness from God.
