Passover or the Lord's Supper-3
We all know that Jehovah inspired every word of His message through His prophets and apostles. However, we have over 1500 years of the Church of Rome in total control of the ‘translations’ of the ‘oldest’ of both the Hebrew and Greek manuscripts. We have no original manuscripts only copies. Now with being said, we can be sure that most of our Bibles are true to the originals, but there are a few New Testament passages that create confusion and doubt. We should never forget that Satan schemes to detract worship from Jehovah and direct it to himself through the enormous amount of false religions, false prophets, and the traditions that have carried on for thousands of years. Just like the religious leaders in the time of Jesus, they followed their traditions and their laws while forsaking the commandments of Jehovah.
Let us continue with our study of real Passover with our eternal Passover Lamb of GOD.
We will have to keep a few things in focus as we continue. First, Satan doesn’t have to rewrite the entire Bible to deceive us.
Second, there are few real concerns over the Old Testament. Could this be due to the gospel is the most critical truth that Satan desires to destroy or hide?
Third, we must also remember that Satan destroys the ‘church’ from the inside. While we normally believe this to be through false preachers and teachers, we must also look at the Bible we hold in our hands. The subtle challenges are only visible to true students of the Bible, as most just carry on with ‘church’ traditions that they have grown up with and never challenge.
Leviticus 23:4 'These are the appointed times of the LORD, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at the times appointed for them.
23:5 'In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight is the LORD'S Passover. 23:6 'Then on the fifteenth day of the same month there is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to the LORD; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread.
23:7 'On the first day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall not do any laborious work. 23:8 'But for seven days you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD. On the seventh day is a holy convocation; you shall not do any laborious work.'"
Because this may be complicated to easily understand we will make sure we take one element at a time and not gloss over those elements which are vital to our understanding. That is why we must once again understand the Feast of Unleavened Bread and its timing. While this is in total agreement with the study on Exodus 12, we need to see what more can we learn.
First, the Passover begins with the killing of the Passover Lamb.
Second, it must be killed by twilight as the next day begins at sundown.
Third, the lamb will be ready to eat after sundown which is the beginning of the feast.
Fourth, the feast requires that only unleavened bread be eaten for the entire 7 days. Also, no leaven or yeast is to be found in the house.
Fifth, the first and last day of the feast are holy days or Sabbaths. No work, no buying or selling either.
Sixth, trying to understand the cultural elements of the times brings us to the Day of Preparation. This day precedes every Sabbath, the weekly and the Sabbaths set apart in the feasts.
Mark 14:12 On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb was being sacrificed, His disciples *said to Him, "Where do You want us to go and prepare for You to eat the Passover?"
Here again is our first challenge. If it is already the first day of the feast of Unleavened Bread, then the Passover meal would have been eaten the night before which is the same day!
14:13 And He *sent two of His disciples and *said to them, "Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him; 14:14 and wherever he enters, say to the owner of the house, 'The Teacher says, "Where is My guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?"' 14:15 "And he himself will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; prepare for us there."
This is a very exact and specific retelling. Again, the emphasis is where to eat the Passover.
14:16 The disciples went out and came to the city, and found it just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover. 14:17 When it was evening He *came with the twelve.
Here is the second challenge. If this is indeed evening, then it is another day or the second day of the feast! Clearly, this cannot be the case. Since Jesus is our Passover Lamb, He needs to die on the day before the feast begins at sundown.
Why is this important you may think?
First, a careful reading of both Matthew and Mark reveals concerns and questions. We can just ignore them and go on with our traditions, much like they did in Jesus day. We can think that Jehovah made a mistake somewhere between Exodus, Leviticus, and the gospels. May that not be true!
Second, this calls into question how and when we celebrate the Lord’s Supper and His death and resurrection.
Homework for next week for those who have the time. Do your own research on Jerome and the Latin Vulgate. I will begin to introduce my findings next week on this important time in history.
More next Saturday.
